7U - Batter, Batter, Swing

VW had another wonderful spring and summer of 7U baseball. He was excited to meet up with his teammates and Coach C again.

VWs excitement as he cheers on his team, makes sires, I am watching, and his focus is fun to watch. Such a great all-American pastime with great friends.

This is what it looks like when I try to capture opening season and your younger brother is jealous.

First play of the game...VW loved being the pitchers helper, outfield, and catcher this summer.

Warming up and watching his teammate.

Great hit and fist pump from first base Coach Dad.

Little brother giving big bro a thumbs up. Great play!

Coach Dad pumping up the team!

At practice, DG tried on the catchers helmet. Hmm...I wonder what this is like.

Daddy helping VW with all the catchers gear...I think Daddy's done that a few times in his life!

During the first part of the season, DG and I hung out in the van for our own special sitting. He thought it was pretty cool to be in the front of the van.

Always have our friend Ty to cheer and play with! Go big brothers!

Rain or shine...we cheered VW on!

They had a great season, played while together, loved the game and improved with every hit, catch and throw. They were undefeated.

Then on to the tournament. Great games, great comebacks, great battle...lost the last game by one to be second in the division. What a fun summer of baseball!

VWs biggest fan!

We Have Some Thinkers and Talkers

DG: Who is the real king in heaven?
VW: God.
DG: Yep your right.

DG: It's scrumptious!

During fireworks in Springfield, SD with family -
    Mom: what's your favorite color?
    DG: Black

Aunt KE: They are going to light the fireworks!
    DG: Who the frogs?
    Aunt KE: Rippet rippet boom
DG: Laughs his utmost contagious laugh

DG: When I grow up I'm gonna play the best I can and get all sweaty!

VW: The thunder gave me a heart attack last night!

DG: Motorcycles are dangerous! What if you can't balance? Just need to practice.

As we are cuddling at bedtime, VW notices my CWS tank.
VW: "Are these your jammie's?
Mom: Yes.
VW: You have baseball jammie's too?

DG: VW, we should start listening to mom and dad like we do to Ms Megan!

DG: So, okay. Well, actually.

DG: Will you help me get my jammie's on?
Mom: Who helped you get dressed this morning?
VW: I did
Mom: That was nice of you
VW: But DG got his own pull-up
DG: Yeah, he is not the pee helper!

DG giving directions to Ms Megan's house: Go straight, find the basketball hoop, the palm tree and the white house but she doesn't live in the palm tree.

During devos tonight, Dad mentioned that the brother who wanted to save Joseph was Rueben and inquired if the boys knew they named a sandwich after him. We continued to read about Potiphar & Joseph's time in Egypt.  At question time, the boys proudly answered all our questions. When we got to the "who wanted to save Joseph" DG exclaimed "SANDWICH!!"

Like This Mom - *SMACK*

DG had the opportunity this summer to take his very first tennis lessons and participate in his very first sport. Miss M would take him down to the country club where he learned how to hold his racket, start down low and SMACK.

Every day he had lessons he would give me a tip or two on what to do and tell us what Coach says...

He was very determined and loved the fun activities the coaches did. One day to teach how to move their feet, they made a long line of a kid caterpillar and Coach had to hit the ball all the way thru their legs. All those cute little legs side stepping to move over. Finally they had a success.

On the Fourth, all the kids held the rackets above their head and Coach made a "fireworks" show by hitting the balls high in the air, landing amongst the kids. DG still tells us how one his racket which then hit his head.

One day I got my own private lessons from DG...low, across, and SMACK. He had to tell me where to stand, what to do next...I think he had a pretty good summer of tennis.

Stories from Our Home

A few things that may have been overheard at our house the past few months:

DG: "When all the blue gets covered up...it's nighttime."

VW: "I like to do things that a lot of kids don't like to do...I like to learn!"

DG: After trying out sleeping on the floor, DG came downstairs with this request. "Mom, will you come help me make my bed? [tuck me in] I wanted to see if the floor was snuggly, but it wasn't."

VW: "Banana"

VW: "I drank my whole Gatorade!"
DG: "I drank a cow!"

DG: After singing a song in the car, I asked if was an original or if he had learned it somewhere. "Actually, my brain though we should sing songs. I looked at this paper [art project from school] and just sang...I learned from the trees."

DG/VW: After learning about the death of a friend and his children, the boys reassuredly informed us there were toys in heaven, so it would be okay.

VW: "Quack"

DG: "Can God change your heart?"
Me: "Yes. You can ask God to change your heart."
DG: "VW and I are mean. Let's ask God to change our hearts!" Solemnly, "Dear God, change my heart. Thanks for everything. It is so beautiful! Amen."
Me: "Beautiful prayer DG!"
DG: "Are toots air?"
Me: Bewildered how we change topics so extremely! "Um, yes!"
DG: "Are burps air?"
Me: "Yes, your tummy can get a little gassy with air."
DG: "Toots are funnier!"

VW: "Ippie, chippy, baloney!"

DG: "You're my mom, but whose my real mom?!"

DG: "Daddy took off his beard!"

DG: Asked DG how he knew the answer. Mr. Know-it-alls response "God made me smart!"

VW/DG: Squeals, giggling, and naked dancing/running during beditme routine..."Watch out for Daddy! He pinches naked bunz!" Then they quickly go find Daddy and excitedly exclaim, "Naked bunz, naked bunz!"
