The Miler

After 3-months of moms training for the half marthon and VW asking when he would get to run with me, the big day arrived. We participated in the Memorial Day Run at Boys Town by waking up early and running 1 mile.

After a fun birthday party and crazy day on Sunday, I had to literally carry VW out of his bed to get ready for the big race. Still a  little sleepy on our way there, but we had lots of questions!

Picked up our packets and placed our timers on our shoes.

Since he got this awesome UNC shirt for his birthday he was 1) not intersted in wearing the race shirt and 2) insisted on wearing the number on his back!

Lots of runners and walkers preparing for the mile.

I looked up from stretching and eyed VWs stretching techniques at the starting line.

Hands on our hearts and proudly sang the Star Spangled Banner together...we remember.

And then let the race begin!

He was an uneven paced runner! Sprinting crazy fast in front me, slowing down, hanging out  with me pace, then thinking he would walk, but instead would sprint again. Too cute!

What a great finish, coming in at 11:46. Great job buddy! So proud of you and had such a great time sharing with you my love of running. It was such a wonderful experience. You smiled the whole time...can't wait to run with you in the next big race!
